Category Archive: Phone apps for mums and babies

You want to treat mobile phone addiction? There’s an app for that…

There is no doubt in my mind that I am raising a techno baby – computers and phones are my nearly-two-year-old’s fetish.

While my biggest problem at the moment is preventing my child from sending random texts and calling 999 (true story), the mere thought of my thirteen-year-old daughter with a phone is utterly cringe-worthy.

I realise that thirteen is s decade away but if it occupies my brain space, surely I am not the only one…

In a recent report by Ofcom, it was revealed that 60% of teenagers are addicted to their mobiles. I really do not want this to be my child!

In response to Ofcom’s statistical revelation, renowned Scottish therapist, Andrew Johnson, has launched an ‘app’ to help teens overcome their addiction.

The app, called Disconnect, has had a 95% success rate amongst those who have used it in trials. The app uses a combination of relaxation techniques including deep breathing, visualisation and meditation allowing people to shift their perception of life without relying on technology.

New baby iPhone app – NCT Baby Change app

After hauling my well-travelled 18-month-old daughter around Italy, Holland, Portugal and northern England, I have done my fair share of spontaneous baby-changes – on streets, in cars and lying on the grass.

It’s totally doable but not always easy. If I can avoid ‘street-changes’ I will; I am consequently always on the lookout for clean, safe baby changing facilities.

With gallivanting mums in mind, NCT has launched a new baby iPhone app that allows parents to locate the nearest baby changing facilities, and then rate them for other parents to use afterwards.

The NCT Baby Change App uses location based features and Google Maps, which enable users to pin-point the nearest changing facilities when out in public.

Currently, more than 7,000 baby changing sites are listed, including department stores, restaurants, museums, galleries, and train stations.

The great name debate – it was waged for many an hour and provoked hot hysteria, terrific tears, fantastic fun and rundown resignation.

Thank goodness not every parent-to-be couple has polar opposite tastes when it comes to the whole name thing or else we’d probably all be a little insane.

But choosing a name is nonetheless difficult because every new mum and dad wants the perfect name for their little precious.

Next time around I am DEFINITELY going to use Hello Baby’s recently launched iPhone app – the Baby Namer.
