I have never seen myself as a ‘hanging out with other mummies in coffee shops talking babies’ kind of mum. I don’t really have a valid reason other than it makes me feel a tad uncomfortable and I am afraid of getting stuck in an I-can’t-stop-talking-about-my- baby rut.

On that note, what’s wrong with coffee, pastries and a bit of baby gab? Nothing, absolutely nothing. In fact, I took the plunge and joined a mums’ group. I look so forward to my Monday morning mums’ group meetings that I have been known to update my facebook status to “I love Monday mornings”, much to the disgust of the nine to five working population. The mums in my group swap parenting ideas, share funny stories and discuss life’s wins and woes whilst sipping tea and tasting pastries (and fruit as a side note).

It’s fabulous. I have come to learn that it is so important to have the support of other mums and although there are more stimulating topics than teething gels, sleep routines and leaking nappies, I for one, feel more secure as a mum if I am able to share ‘mumsy things’ with other mums. Nobody understands motherhood better than other mums facing the same joys and challenges and it is always nice to have a sympathetic ear. Not only is my Monday morning mums’ meeting great for me but my 10-month-old daughter loves it – she certainly looks forward to hanging with her homies. Mummy’s happy, baby’s happy… so bring on mornings with mums.
