Pregnant belly art
There aren’t many moments in a woman’s life when she can celebrate a rotund belly. Most of the time, we’re self-consciously sucking our tummies in and comparing our natural curves to flat-stomached, teenage supermodels.
But for 9 months, as we nurture new life within our bodies, we can embrace the growing ‘bump’, watching with pride and wonder as our bellies swell to accommodate the baby inside. It’s not just celebrities like Demi Moore and Myleene Klass who want to mark their blooming bodies with naked photo shoots. Many mothers not only take photos to record this special time in their lives but even turn their bumps into works of art.
‘Belly art’, such as that available at Inner Smile is one way of celebrating the beauty of a pregnant belly. You can choose an image or message to be painted on your stomach – or try a Henna tattoo for a longer-lasting image.

Another option is to make a cast of your pregnant belly – although you might need a little help from your partner or a friend. You can buy casting kits and decorating packs from www.everlastingcastings.co.uk. Quite what you do with your cast afterwards is up to you – some mothers like to paint them and hang above their baby’s cot. Ot turn it upside down and have a truly unique fruit bowl! I’ve even seen one studded with holes and used as a lampshade. I guess it’s what they call a ‘pregnant glow’.
