Retro is trendy. And not just in relation to food and fashion.

Comparison site Twenga has revealed that online searches for old school toys have shot up in recent months. Sandpits are up 119%, water pistols – up 96%, Kids’ bikes – up 94%, roller skates – up 89% and trampolines – 88%.

In fact, I wouldn’t mind having a jump on a trampoline, a bit of a skate and most certainly a water fight with some power pistols.

Sandpits are right up my alley; when I take my 18-month-old daughter to build sandcastles, I think that I have more fun digging and delving than she does.

Perhaps the fixation with old school toys has a little bit to do with reliving childhood?

One of the best things about having children is that they keep you young (in spirit at least) – playing games and existing in an imaginary world of pirates and princess is fun and invigorating. I love it!

And statistics say that loads of other parents are having as much fun as I am!
