From the floaty sounds coming from the yoga studio to the muscle men pumping iron to Kid Rock in the weights room, there’s nothing like the right music to get you moving through your workout.
As a runner in a former life (before children and bad knees confined me to working out in the safety of my living room), I know that the mix of tunes on my MP3 player could make or break my motivation, speed and stamina.
Music and work outs should go hand in hand.
Many a morning was spent doing one more lap of the park so I could hear that track just one more time before heading off to work, or getting home in double-quick time with the help of something with a beat just that bit faster than my usual pace.
Nowadays, I workout using DVD-based programmes, all of which have carefully planned soundtracks that increase the level of intensity and tension just as you need a boost, and then gently wind you down with some gentle tones to stretch and breath to, before patting you on the back with a few triumphant chords to accompany the high-fiving DVD workout crew and closing credits.
