Ask any mum and dad – becoming a parent sends your mind into a frenzy (even if you think you’re ready).
Parents keep it real in new research from The Essential Parent Company; eight out of 10 new parents surveyed felt they didn’t have the practical skills to care for their newborn.
The top 4 areas new parents felt least prepared are: dealing with sleep issues, managing a crying baby, first aid and emergency intervention, and feeding.
I know that when I fell pregnant with my daughter, I was absolutely terrified! I had no idea what to do with a baby – from changing nappies and knowing how to hold it to feeding and sleep routines. I asked people, read up on stuff and used my savvy and it all turned out okay. What I have learned is that when thrust into situations, it’s amazing how adept we are at coping.
To help new parents cope with the potential stress and anxiety that often come along with a new baby, The Essential Parent Company has launched a new parents information guide on DVD, The Essential Baby Care Guide.
A resource of four DVDs featuring eight hours of film content that deal with the big issues faced by parents in raising a new child – sleep, feeding, care and development and first aid.
The new parents information guide is a collaboration between ‘Child of Our Time’ creator Professor Lord Robert Winston and a host of leading childcare experts including The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Initiative.
