How to prevent nappy rash
Preventing nappy rash before it starts is key, here are some simple tips to help protect your baby’s skin.
- Change nappies frequently, minimise the prolonged exposure to moisture and irritants
- Clean baby’s nappy area with water or fragrance-free wipes to avoid irritation. Gently pat the skin dry after cleaning.

- Ensure a proper nappy fit, make sure that nappies are not too tight as this can cause chafing.

How to treat nappy rash

Causes of nappy rash
Nappy rash is a common irritation affecting babys delicate skin, often caused by prolonged exposure to moisture, friction or irritants, some of the main triggers are:
- Friction caused by the nappy rubbing against baby’s delicate skin
- Wet nappies, exposure to wee and poo
- Sensitive skin some babies have more delicate skin that can react more easily
- Irritants such as washing detergents, soaps, wipes or nappies that may cause discomfort.
- Certain milestones such as weaning and teething, can cause changes in baby’s poo
- Diarrhoea increases the frequency of contact , which makes nappy rash more likely

Nappy rash symptoms
Nappy rash can be quickly detected by checking for these symptoms:
- Red, inflamed skin in the nappy area
