How to look good when flying – air travel style tips

Air travel, whilst exciting, is not all that conducive to ‘style’. Of course, the denizens of Celebdom will undoubtedly travel in ‘comfy class’, which is why they meander through international airports looking unfairly fashionable.

As for the rest of us, airplanes are usually uncomfortable, pretty cramped and style-crushing in every imaginable way. Air travel is synonymous with dishevelment, which leads me to my theory; if hours on an airplane manufactures dishevelment, why not create the look with purpose?

In other words, create the ‘airplane look’ before you embark on your flight. It can be done in style. Here’s 5 air travel style tips:

1. Oversize everything – harem pants, trench coats, baggy tees with a pair of skinnies, giant shades… are but a few examples. The key is to select ‘big’ items that have been tailored to be big. Then you avoid looking like you’re pregnant and trying to hide it. The oversized look is comfy and hides a multitude of sins.

2. Grunge – my favourite look by far. Think converse, Dr Martens, jeans, band tee (baggy if poss), un-brushed hair, smudged mascara. You could also do holey tights and a loose fitting dress (floral’s always good). Grunge is an excuse for anything and everything.

Soothing silk eye mask

Gingerlily, designers of luxury silk bedding and bedroom accessories, has created a silk eye mask intended to soothe weary eyes.

Like me, you’re probably wondering a) why a mask is necessary at all (the winter dark is… pretty dark), and b) how can a piece of material ‘soothe the eyes’?

Here’s the deal: covered in and filled with 100 per cent ‘A’ grade Mulberry silk, a naturally anti-static fibre, Gingerlily’s silk eye mask helps to prevent fine lines and wrinkles (especially on the delicate skin around the eyes) by decreasing friction which traumatises the skin. Silk also contains amino acids that help skin retain moisture, keeping it plumped and looking revitalised.

Silk is also a naturally hypoallergenic fibre and is resistant to dust mites – (a useful fact to take into your daily life when choosing linen for your bed).

Best treatment for sunburn?

Sunburn – we’ve all been there, even those of us who are fanatical about using sun cream have been caught short at a fair or on the beach, or spent so long slapping it on our shoulders that we have forgotten entirely about the tops of our feet!

So what do you do when you get home and realize that your red bits aren’t turning brown and now suddenly feel hotter than they did in the height of the sun?

What is the best treatment for sunburn?

Sunburn is like any other type of burn in that it feels instantly better when you cool it, so a cool shower or bath, or an ice pack will help soothe the immediate soreness and take the heat out of the situation for a while.

Similarly, calamine lotion is famous for its cooling effect, and after-sun gels are available that contain aloe vera to help cool and soothe the skin.

Ultimately, however, sunburn causes damage to the skin, so the area will still be sore for some time, and may need something more moisturizing to recondition the skin.

It is important to make sure that anything you apply to the skin is suitable for use on sunburn – some ordinary moisturizers may contain perfumes or other chemicals that will make the area sting or itch, doing you more harm than good.

Veet’s new body moisturiser

Veet has launched a new Hair Minimising Body Moisturiser that is being hailed as a ‘revolutionary product that is guaranteed to help modern, savvy women maintain that soft, silky smooth feeling for longer.’

I have used Veet a couple of times and it barely worked. This probably says less about the product and, rather, more about my mutant hair growth and the fact that I should probably engage in hair removal more often than not… even in winter.

Having not used the new product I cannot offer an opinion but can certainly relay information.

Veet’s new body moisturiser contains a dermalogically tested ingredient – ProMinimise – to noticeably reduce the appearance of hair re-growth.

The ProMinimise formulation contains natural botanical extracts that are known to target hair follicle activity and noticeably slow down the appearance of hair re-growth.

This means that silky smooth feeling is prolonged and you can remove hair less often.

The Hair Minimising Moisturiser promises results in 2 weeks.  When tested by consumers (243 women), 82% of women experienced longer lasting smoothness within just two weeks.

New moisturiser for swimmers

Summer is all about swimming.

Whether you are a fitness freak or water worshiper, there’s sure to be a little fun and sun for all spirited summer addicts.

The only rubbish think about all that water soaking is the drying effects of chlorine or salt water, which usually leave the skin feeling like a piece of old leather.

But if you are like me, a little bit of ‘leatherface’ (minus the chainsaw of course) is no deterrent to making the most out of summer sun!

The best solution is to moisturise, moisturise and moisturise some more.

To counter the effects of arid skin, Pepperfit has launched a new moisturiser for swimmers, a ‘swimmers essentials collection’ that is made with essential oils of Tangerine, Lavender and Chamomile, all of which are gentle on the skin.
