So… what colours should our nails rock this spring/summer 2013 season? Here’s the lowdown on the latest nail colour trends;
Online beauty retailer Sally Express says that soft pastels and earthy tones form the basis of this season’s new colours. Cooler colours, including certain shades of blue, as well as warmer reds, browns and oranges also feature heavily in many nail collections this year.
Tone is a big pointer for nail colour trends according to Stylist.co.uk – so, deck your nails out in different shades of a single colour; a different shade on each nail going from light to dark or try two tones on a single nail.
It’s a more sophisticated approach to nails and can get complicated but Tom Bachik, global nail artist for L’Oréal Paris, has offered STYLIST a ‘how to guide’ – CLICK HERE to read.

“Vogue” articulates leather-look polishes, magnetic crocodile designs and liquid sand textures as the season’s it nail trends.

If you live in the world (which, as you may have realised, excludes no one) and haven’t heard of ‘the Kate Middleton effect’ you’ve been living under one seriously large rock. The phenomenon even has its own Wikipedia entry – for heaven’s sake!
The lovely Duchess (and her accompanying fashion savvy) is responsible for a lookalike effect that has taken the globe by storm.
By ‘the globe’ I am referring mostly to America, of course.
The latest in the Kate Middleton effect is that brunette is back! Everyone’s going brunette (also known as ‘brown’) –Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Amanda Holden, Carol Vorderman, Tulisa and Britney… Britney people, BRITNEY! – The princess of pop rocked up to Elton John’s Oscar (2013) party with brown hair. Whaaaat!

“Woman’s Own” (March 2013) says that brunette hair colourant has overtaken blonde as the most popular DIY shade.

If you haven’t yet read about Katie Holmes and her miracle beauty treatment – let me fill you in…
…it’s snail slime. For real. The Dailymail.co.uk says so.
Okay, now Katie is not collecting snails from her garden and letting them wonder all over her beautiful face in the hope that her skin will gain some rejuvenating property – as much as the headlines would have us believe. The star is said to use face creams that have been enriched with mucin aka snail slime.
Snail mucus is thought to reduce pigmentation and scarring, and reduce wrinkles; and we know how Hollywood gets when it comes to anything that claims to defy the ageing process!

The slime produced by a snail is used to heal its foot when damaged by the harsh undergrowth over which it moves– so it sort of makes sense that the same might work when applied to human skin. Right?

Growing old is not something that many women, myself included, like to contemplate too carefully. The concept of ageing is often synonymous with ‘loss of beauty’, which is utterly ridiculous but sadly inescapable.
We live in a culture that lauds youth and incites the idea that beauty is skin deep. Of course our heads tell us that such a philosophy is superficial but as women, we can’t help but buy into it just a little.
Here’s the thing: beauty is about attitude. Attractive women are confident – they are comfortable with their age and assured in their appearance.
In recent research which translates as tips on how to grow old gracefully, it was revealed that women are eschewing cosmetic surgery and that heavy make-up and mini-skirts should be given the heave-ho by the early 40s. In other words, the trend is to grow old gracefully.
Granted, ‘graceful’ may have various interpretations dependent on individual thought but there are some common principles that were highlighted in NRS’s survey. Here’s what the women of Britain say on how to grow old gracefully:

Beauty enthusiasts have thoroughly enjoyed the bountiful array of beauty trends for 2012 as there has been an amazing mixture of styles and colours available thanks to the creativity which was seen on the designer catwalks. These looks gave women across the country inspiration whether they were after a subtle or bold look to create their own take on this season’s hottest makeup trends.
Metallics were a welcome change for Spring/Summer 2012 as these sparkly must-haves don’t normally appear till fall. Eyes were complimented by versatile shades of warm copper and gold. In contrast there were bright bold shades which were perfect for the summery months.
Other beauty trends of 2012 included feline inspired eyeliner which helped to create dramatic effects and flashes of neon colour to bring a statement edge to eyes. Retro wasn’t just for the clothing on the catwalk either as beautiful vintage-esque makeup was all the rage throughout SS12.

A clear clean complexion allowed for a bold red lip to be the main focus of this trend for a statement evoking pout. Bold brows allowed women to forget about their tweezers for a while instead opting to use brow pencils to achieve definition whilst purple and lilac tones were popular hues to fuse into day and evening looks.
