Garden Games For Kids This Summer

Garden games for kids are great fun for all the family. It’s good to get your little ones outside and moving during the summer holidays, so try out some of these garden games for kids!

Garden games for kids

Hopscotch

Old school hopscotch is always fun, so get a few pieces of outdoor chalk and draw it out. You can mix it up a little too if you want to step away from the traditional. For older children, you can use the outdoor chalk to create an obstacle course. You could even write instructions such as ‘do 5 jumping jacks’, or ‘run on the spot for one minute’ at different places.

Bean Bag Toss

Most stores that stock garden games for kids will have something like a bean bag toss, but you can easily make your own. All you need is a few plastic bowls of different sizes, and some card. Use the card to make scores and attach them to the bowls. Attach the smallest score to the largest bowl, and the highest score to the smallest bowl. Mark out a spot for your children to throw from, and you can play all day out in the garden.

Water Cup Races

Another easily made garden game is a water cup race. All you need is some string, plastic disposable cups, and water pistols. Cut the string into equal lengths, making sure that you have one piece for each child. Poke a hole in the bottom of the cup, and thread the string through. Tie the string up. Give each child a water pistol, and have them squirt the water into the cup to make it move along to the end of the string. Whoever reaches the end first is the winner!

Jenga

Jenga is always a fun family game, but if you find an oversized outdoor version, it’s one of the most amazing garden games for kids you’ll ever play. It won’t suitable for young children, and children should always be supervised while playing, but it can be great fun. If you’re in any way crafty, you may even be able to make your own Jenga game. You could even add challenges and activities to each block that whoever takes that piece out has to complete!

Swingball

Swingball is a classic garden game for a reason, and it’s been around for a long time. A swingball set is relatively reasonably priced and can give hours and days of fun. It can be played alone, or two people can play. It’s a great way of playing ball games even in a small space. Make sure children are supervised when playing, and keep young children away from the game area.
