Top 5 Fun Garden Activities To Keep Your Children Entertained

During summer holidays, you may not always want to be filling your days with outings and excursions. You might want to keep your children entertained at home too. There are so many things you can do in the garden to keep them amused and having fun, whilst giving you the chance to relax at home as well.

1. Paddling Pools

Paddling pools are one of the best ways to keep children having fun in the garden. A simple paddling pool with a bucket or water toys can provide hours of entertainment. It’s also a great way to cool off in the hot weather. Even the most basic paddling pool can keep your little ones busy, but you could invest in a more complex pool with slides or other add-ons if you wish. It’s important to remember to always supervise your children, even in shallow water.

Add in a few water pistols and water balloons, and your biggest problem might be trying to get them back inside!

2. Garden Playhouse

A garden playhouse is another great way to keep children entertained. Again, a basic playhouse can ensure hours of fun, but you can get more complex models. You could combine the playhouse with an outdoor play kitchen and let your little ones’ imaginations run wild. Incorporate old pots, pans and bowls, and an outdoor play kitchen is ready to go.

3. Garden Games

Garden games are another great way to keep children entertained and they’re also a good opportunity to spend time with them. Many stores have ready-made garden game kits, but you can turn any game into a garden game. Older kids might enjoy playing badminton or tennis. Younger children could try outdoor Jenga, or you could use some chalk and draw out a simple hopscotch.

4. Barbecue

Barbecues are fantastic. With the British weather, it’s not very often that you get to cook and eat outside, so it’s always a good idea to take advantage of it. Get your little ones involved in the barbecue. Even young children can have a job to do, whether it’s preparing a salad, or helping to marinate the meat. You could have them set a table, ready to eat, or maybe make a picnic area on the ground. You could barbecue old favourite recipes, or you could help your children find something new to try out.

5. A Football Net

A football net is a great addition to the garden and can keep even toddlers entertained. Price wise, they can be picked up for smaller budgets, or you may be able to find one second-hand. Check charity shops, or your local buy and sell pages online.

Children don’t have to be football mad to enjoy playing football in the garden. You could set up simple competitions for your little ones. Even something as simple as penalty shootouts, where the first to five goals is the winner, can help to keep your children busy in the garden.
